Ben’s Bachelor Party, And Medial Elbow Pain in Youth Baseball Players
Some go to Vegas for their bachelor party…I go to Ortonville, Minnesota.
No, the picture on the left is not me in case you were wondering. Unfortunately, my wakeboarding experience during my bachelor party last weekend did not go well. I thought this picture of my soon to be brother-in-law was cooler than a picture of me tangled up in seaweed. Overall, it was a great bachelor weekend on Big Stone lake (happy to share details in person). Anyways, I also wanted to share some information on medial elbow pain in youth baseball players. Here is a common medial elbow injury we see among 12-16 year old baseball players.
Little League Elbow.
What is Little League Elbow? - An inflammation of the growth plate on the inner (medial) side of the elbow. Why the growth plate? - During adolescent years (as bones are still growing) the growth plates remain open, which means the bone can actually be more fragile than the surrounding muscles/ligaments, making it more susceptible to injury. Here are signs/symptoms to look out for that could indicate Little League Elbow:
· Pain and or swelling on the inner side of the elbow
· Elbow pain with throwing
· Pain with bending/straightening the elbow
· Weak/painful grip strength
At MVP Sports Rehab we have helped multiple baseball players this season recover from Little League Elbow and return to the diamond at 100%. If you’d like more information on Little League Elbow and how to help prevent it, let’s chat! Or, if you’re experiencing similar elbow symptoms let’s create a plan to get back to 100%.
