Shoulder Impingement – A 100% Full Recovery
From 50 mph with shoulder pain, to 90 mph….PAIN FREE!
It’s ‘Throw’-Back Thursday, where we highlight a former client’s rehab and return to 100%, with information on common baseball injuries we see at MVP Sports Rehab.
On my left is Sam, a college pitcher diagnosed with shoulder impingement during baseball season after it became too painful to throw. He came to MVP Sports Rehab after trying physical therapy somewhere else, still having shoulder pain throwing 50 mph (He usually throws low 90s). After 2 weeks with MVP, his shoulder pain was gone, and by the time his spring season started he was back up to 90 mph, pitching in games, with NO pain.
So, what is shoulder impingement?
This particular type of shoulder impingement ONLY occurs in baseball players, and we treat it frequently. The rotator cuff gets pinched/impinged during the throwing motion. Most of the time we find rotator cuff weakness as one of the contributing factors to this injury.
So I’ve included a video of an In-Season Rotator Cuff Exercise to help keep your cuff STRONG! It’s simple, effective, and can be done pretty much anywhere with no equipment needed. Video link with explanation below! (I apologize for the sound quality…still nursing an iPhone 7)
Huge credit to Sam for the hard work he put in to get back on the field. He’s a talented player and an awesome person. It was a pleasure helping him! If you’d like more rotator cuff strengthening exercises/tips, give us a call or stop by and let’s chat!
We appreciate you being a part of the MVP family!
