Calling All Catchers - From Shoulder Pain to a State Championship
Are catchers more prone to arm injuries?
For this ‘Throw’-Back Thursday we highlight an MVP client who worked his way back from shoulder pain to help his team win a State Championship.
Carter here is a catcher, and a beast behind the plate. He began having shoulder pain midway through the summer season. First, here is something to consider about catchers. A catcher’s throw back to the pitcher, even though it’s a short distance, adds up over time and especially over multiple games in one weekend (sometimes 500+ throws). A low-level of stress repeated over a long duration can cause problems. This is something to be aware of if you’re a catcher.
Carter came to us at the right time. We adjusted his throwing workload while implementing a customized in-season strength program to improve specific areas of muscle weakness…..he was back playing in 2 weeks, and no shoulder pain since.
Carter has an incredible work ethic and it was awesome to see him finish the season healthy, as a State Champion. We are excited to see his growth and success throughout the rest of his baseball career!
